Frequently Asked Questions
(Note: Since Murder Afloat is no longer in operation, and until we decide what content would be appropriate for our website, we’ve simply change the tense from present to past in the following FAQ’s)
What is was Murder Afloat?
It’s It was a Thursday Night murder mystery show which has been entertaining visitors since 1990. Professional actors performed aboard one of the paddle-wheel boats of the River Street Riverboat Company.
Is Was dinner included?
We wish! (The cast loves free food!) The weekly Murder Afloat shows were not dinner cruises. Refreshments were available at the cash bar.
What is was the Dress Code?
You were on a riverboat and going from deck to deck following the action, so we always recommended casual and comfortable. Some folks were on a “special night out” and came directly from a nice dinner at one of Savannah’s finer restaurants, so they were all “decked out,” to use a boat metaphor. It’s tended to class up the joint a bit, but most of us were dressed casually (shorts, jeans, etc.)
Does Did the audience participate?
Kinda sorta, but it’s not like some of the other cheesy murder mysteries you may have seen. Audience members were not given roles to play. Professional actors were on board to act out the crime. The audience was invited to help solve it. Passengers were given name badges, paper, and pencils to take notes. Asking the actors questions and comparing notes with others was encouraged.
Is Was this like a play?
Almost. Beautifully written and well-rehearsed scenes were performed at various locations on the boat, so it was not a show you sat and watched. Passengers were encouraged to move around, ask questions and compare notes with each other.
Is Was Murder Afloat suitable for Children?
If this were a movie it would probably have been rated PG. There was no adult language in the script, but there was a murder. It was not graphic. It was as appropriate as any murder mystery could be.
How long is was the show?
The cruise was an hour and a half, and the show was a little less than that. We generally had about five or ten minutes to mingle, out-of-character, with the audience after the show.
What do did we get if we solved the crime?
A winner was be drawn from the correct solutions and a prize given to the sleuth who guessed the murderer, the motive, and the method.
Is Murder Afloat available for private bookings?
Does a squirrel have nuts? We do private shows for company parties, conventions, eccentric rich people etc. Shows can be staged in hotel meeting rooms, courtyards, luxury yachts (hey, it’s happened!) and ideally, of course, aboard the Riverboat.
